“Our mission is three-fold: We want to educate our Members about cutting edge corporate governance issues and for-profit/corporate board services. We offer programs to help prepare women to become board-ready and we actively participate in the process of placing FWA Members on public and private company boards.”
— Merrie Frankel, former co-Chair of the Directorships and Corporate Governance (D&CG) Committee
One of the most powerful aspects of the D&CG Committee is the advocacy work it does to diversify the corporate board room here in America and around the globe. It also sponsors regular training sessions for FWA Members interested in seeking executive or corporate board positions and then coaches them on how to persuasively present their qualifications.
The D&CG Committee has recently participated in workshops and studies including:
- Diversifying the American Board Program- This conference and pre-conference workshop was sponsored by Deloitte and offers workshops such as “Finding the Right Fit: Board Education” and panel discussions with executives from Deloitte LLP and Weil, Gotshal & Manges LP.
- FWA100© Study -This tri-state study related to the number of women currently sitting on boards was made for inclusion in ION’s National Study and also referenced in the International Corporate Governance Network (ICGN).
- Global Board Ready Women (GBRW) EU Database – Undertaken by the FWA along with The International Alliance for Women (TIAW), this effort was made in order to establish a database of women around the world who are qualified to sit on corporate boards.
