The mentoring program powered by the FWA assists mentees to smoothly transition into long, successful careers after gaining the knowledge and leaving with the tools provided by experienced women part of this organization. Two very successful mentoring programs, one at Baruch college a CUNY school, and one at MBHS, a NYC high school, have been underway for many years allowing students to benefit from:

  • One-on-one teaching that is conducted in person, by e-mail and phone
  • An online community that students and mentor facilitators can access at anytime
  • Professional development and career readiness lessons
  • Confidence building
  • SAT’s and PSAT’s Prep Classes

Murry Bergtraum High School (MBHS) has over a 25 year relationship with the FWA and is highlighted as being the longest running program in the NYC public school system. Many graduates of this program are the first in their family to complete high school and continue onto college. Since program inception, all MBHS mentees have graduated on time and enrolled in college.

Additionally, the BARUCH program started in 2002 (approximately 25-30 pairs in the program, primarily juniors and seniors of diverse backgrounds and first generation to college) offers a generous scholarship to deserving mentees. Some participants of the Baruch program have in turn become a pipeline for paying it forward, understanding the sheer value the program has so they have come back to mentor.

Highlights of agendas covered during this mentorship are:

  • Career panels
  • Networking and interviewing skills
  • Business etiquette
  • Study abroad opportunities
  • Ability to attend important women’s leadership conferences

“No other program is as inspiring, rewarding, fun and enlightening. The mentors are the greatest benefit of the program. My mentor was always there to encourage, help and advise me on important career and life decisions,” Natalia K., Baruch College Class of 2011 said.
