First Annual Past Presidents Breakfast co-hosted with one of the ‘Original Eight’ Founders

The Financial Women’s Association held its first annual Past Presidents’ Breakfast recently, an event that was co-hosted by one of the original eight founding members Joan Farr and current President Kimberly Weinrick. With more than twenty FWA Past Presidents, the open dialogue at the session set the stage for continuing the organization’s objectives and providing an opportunity for these leaders to reconnect, engage and look ahead to the future of the FWA.

Opening the event, Ms Weinrick thanked her co-host, Past President, Joan Farr ’57-58. “I’m am delighted to be with you today, and humbled by the vast leadership that you all represent.” She added, “It is a special honor for me to be joined today by one of our Founders, who nearly 60 years ago started out with eight industry colleagues and formed a group that was to become the FWA.”

Presidents also highlighted the FWA transition period from the retirement of long-time advisor, Executive Director Nancy Sellar, to the good work of our Interim Executive Director Karen Karpowich, who has been a terrific partner and stepped in to lead the Office team, until a full time Executive Director is named. The FWA has embarked on many important and bold initiatives to ensure FWA’s long term viability and leadership position in the women’s professional advancement arena. The coordinated efforts of the Presidents, Board of Directors, Members and staff’s work during this time period have been crucial.

During the program, many topical issues were discussed, ranging from increased use of digital communications and more diligent build-out of our robust membership offerings to the current focus on upgrading our programming, from hearing first hand from today’s CEOs. There was also support for increasing our focus on the Capital Markets, upgraded technologies and Member communications, and the kick-off of our FWA-Female Veteran initiative to be launched next month.

“I think all of us are proud, that after 58 years, the FWA Leadership, continuing this year under Kimberly, is as strong as ever. Recent programs have featured Chairmen and CEOs, Jamie Dimon of JPMorgan Chase and Steven Kandarian of Metlife, along with the roster of successful Member-only initiatives,” commented Ms. Farr “So congratulations and thank you to past presidents and our current president,” she added. 2014 is guaranteed to be an exciting one for the Financial Women’s Association; we hope you join us on this forward journey.

President-Elect Maureen Adolf also attended the program, and looks with great enthusiasm to July 2014 and beyond.

We add a special thanks to Sidley Austin for hosting this remarkable event.
